AFC Ellen : :) what I always recommend is posting a message on our message boards BoreSight : You have as close to the standard as you're going to get right now, Rich. Rich856 : OK BoreSight : If you have the USR HSt. There IS no standard yet. And that's why 2400 is still the "standard" on all the national online services. Rich856 : I do.. I am also waiting for ISDN and other things to take hold. BoreSight : Even the government doesn't have a standard yet for 9600. LitLucy : Spent hours in 10 miles of construction going 2 miles per hour with only a quarter of a tank of gas. LitLucy : Just unscrewed (oops) the phone and found a soundpiece and only two metal pieces not color coded BoreSight : heehee No woes on the road with a modem. :) Just take the phone apart and find the red and green wires on the interface block.Parallel them. :) AFC Sarah : Umhmmmmm Bore, you are always into parallels! BoreSight : Faster that way, Sarah. :) Better than parallel monologues. :) BoreSight : Don't need the soundpiece, Sarah. Look at the interconnecting block. Just parallel with the green and red wires. :) AFC Sarah : Lucy, I have used the gator clips on those, it works fine...just need two ",," before the 9 to dial out BoreSight : Works fine if you just cut the connector off a standard 6' modem cord. :) LitLucy : Can't see it. Embedded in plastic BoreSight : The board should be on the right side of the disassembled phone. :) LitLucy : Oh - take the phone apart not the headset? AFC Sarah : <<Not familiar w/Kermit...not into Frogs or software named after amphibians BoreSight : I used that a LONG time ago, Diana. Not really all that familiar with it anymore though. DianaLynnC : Was it any good? BoreSight : Not really all that good, but sometimes it IS necessary to communicate. :) From a standard PC to a mainframe. LitLucy : Have tried Kermit to go out through mainframe to modems from digital phone. AFC Sarah : Diana Lynn...what do you need Kermit for? DianaLynnC : Well, I use Quick Link II for other online purposes. BoreSight : Yep, Lucy... that's what it's normally used for... though not necessarily a digital phone. DianaLynnC : The problem is that my keyboard does not provide the correct commands to QL II.. BoreSight : :) Does it allow different kinds of emulation, Diana? DianaLynnC : So I have a problem sending information while I am on internet. Someone suggested that I switch to Kermit AFC Ellen : Doesn't Kermit work between PC's and a mainframe Vax? DianaLynnC : Yes. BoreSight : Yes, it does AFC Sarah : Hmmm, seems to me you can download Kermit from here, too. Did you do that already? DianaLynnC : I have a copy. I have one (it was needed) but I don't know what it does. LitLucy : So now I have my naifile, my adaptor and what else? BoreSight : I use one of those little Curtis toolkits. Has everything you need in it. BoreSight : $25.00 approximately. LitLucy : Before powerstrip had to find two plugs because both powerbook and stylewriter have power adaptors! AFC Sarah : Yeah, Lucy, good point and a modem/line surge protector, too, for those awful power fluctuations. BoreSight : That's what the powerstrip does, Sarah. :) The TV may go off, but your computer won't. :) AFC Sarah : Yeah, but my little setup takes up less room than a powerstrip BoreSight : Hmmmmmmmm... describe "your little setup?" Stoney : Diana, a null modem cable can connect between two computers modem ports.It simulates using a modem. Like using LapLink BoreSight : A null modem is nothing but a connector that usually flips pins 5 and 6.Those are the transmit/receive pins. DianaLynnC : Now I understand...finally. LitLucy : What is Modems USA, Diane? LitLucy : can't afford it. My phone bill is too much already! DianaLynnC : it is a new book that lists 1-800... bbs and other online systems. BoreSight : There are big listings like that right on here, Diana. :) And they're probably more current. DianaLynnC : They are mostly toll free numbers. As a teacher and Media Specialist... I never know when a toll free online system will come in handy! The Library of Congress can be accessed. ERIC....The National Education Association bbs. But not all are appropriate for children. BoreSight : Diana, there should be a BUNCH of them in your area.
